The Interprofessional Health Collaborative of Saskatchewan (IHCS) is a network of individuals and organizations with an expressed interest in interprofessional health education, practice and policy.

The IHCS, initiated in 2008, is a continuation of province-wide interprofessional education (IPE) projects and activities that were developed during the Health Canada funded P-CITE (Patient Centered Interprofessional Team Experiences) initiative. P-CITE (2005-2008) had the goal of improving the health of communities, families and individuals across the province of Saskatchewan through services delivered by effective interprofessional health care teams.

The Interprofessional Health Collaborative of Saskatchewan (IHCS) is enthusiastic about supporting the development of interprofessional education (IPE) and collaborative practice (CP) across Saskatchewan.

The IHCS is working toward several key goals:

  1. Establishing an Interprofessional Education (IPE) and collaborative practice (CP) framework or model for the province
  2. Developing key priorities that will lead to a comprehensive longer term IP plan relevant to both the academic programs and practice settings
  3. Maintaining existing and strengthen new IP linkages: provincially, regionally and nationally
  4. Exploring funding opportunities to advance IP collaboration and education in the Province.

SAHSN has provided funding for IHCS activities. IHCS funding has been helpful in advancing a province-wide network of educators, clinicians and community partners committed to IP learning and practice: Saskatchewan Association for Interprofessional Practice and Education (SAIPPE). SAIPPE's mission is as follows:

To promote and advance the implementation and scholarship of IPPE for understanding and solving complex social and health issues of individuals and communities.

Additionally, IHCS funding has allowed for Saskatchewan to remain connected and involved with national  and regional Interprofessional research and activities: Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative (CIHC) and Western Regional Interprofessional Health Collaborative (WCIHC).
